South Dakota’s warning is about false identity and licensing
The South Dakota Commission on Gaming’s August 2025 warning describes fraudulent online casinos and false claims of connection to licensed businesses. A familiar physical casino name should not be taken as evidence that an online site or app is operated or authorized by that casino.
This warning concerns deceptive sites and licensing claims. It should not be presented as an identical enforcement order against every sweepstakes operator. Our current publication policy nevertheless withholds sweepstakes casino recommendations for South Dakota; we do not use website accessibility as a substitute for reliable authorization evidence.
Verify the exact business before sharing information
Compare the complete domain, legal entity and contact details with independently located official information. Avoid using a sponsored search result, unsolicited link or app-store image as the only evidence of identity. A copied logo is easy to mistake for a genuine connection.
If a site claims a South Dakota gaming license, establish what entity and activity the license covers. A physical property’s authorization should not be assumed to extend to an unrelated internet product. Resolve the claim before supplying identity documents or payment details.
If you already used the site
Save the domain, account notices, receipts and correspondence. Record purchased entertainment balances and promotional balances separately, together with any pending redemption reference. Ask the genuine business through an independently verified channel whether it operates the website you used.
Do not pay an unexpected fee to a caller who promises to release a prize or recover a disputed balance. Further payment does not establish the caller’s identity or solve the original account problem.
If the issue is a restriction on a real account, read the dated notice and ask about existing requests separately from future play. Do not use another address or location masking to continue. The official warning helps readers identify the risk; it does not promise recovery of money from a fraudulent or unlicensed operation.
