The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced on October 8 that it had sent cease-and-desist letters to 33 offshore gambling operators. Its announcement covers online casino games, sweepstakes-style games and sports betting offered to Michigan residents without a state license, according to the agency.
The warning extends beyond access to games
The MGCB highlighted self-exclusion: licensed operators must honor Michigan’s responsible-gaming database, while offshore sites have no corresponding obligation. The agency warned that a person who has excluded themselves could still be able to register and deposit with an unlicensed operator.
It also said operators ignoring the directives could face further enforcement involving the Michigan Department of Attorney General. The announcement does not report that every recipient has closed or stopped serving residents.
What this means for sweepstakes coverage
This is an enforcement announcement covering several gambling categories. It should not be read as a finding that every named recipient runs a sweepstakes casino. The primary release below identifies the recipients and explains the agency’s position.
