How to get free Sweeps Coins

The usual ways to get Sweeps Coins without buying anything, from daily logins to mail-in requests, and the rules that come with each one.

The short answer

You get free Sweeps Coins through an operator’s no-purchase routes. The usual ones are a sign-up offer, a daily login bonus, a mail-in request and social media promotions. Each operator sets its own amounts and conditions in its official rules. This is what people usually mean by a free sweepstakes casino: you can take part without buying anything.

“Free” always comes with conditions. You have to be eligible to take part. Free coins usually have to be played before anything can be redeemed. And you’ll pass identity checks before any prize is paid.

Some operators use their own name for Sweeps Coins. Spree, for example, calls them Spree Coins. The routes below work the same way whatever the coins are called.

Who can get free Sweeps Coins?

Only eligible players. Before you look at any free route, check two things in the operator’s rules.

  • Your state. Operators exclude some states from their sweepstakes. Some states have also passed laws against sweepstakes casinos. Our state-by-state availability pages track where each state stands.
  • Your age. Age limits are set by each operator and, in some cases, by state rules. Some operators require players to be 21 or older.

The operators we checked don’t allow multiple accounts. High 5 Casino’s rules, for example, void redemptions for players with more than one account. Opening extra accounts to collect more free coins breaks the rules.

Sign-up offers

Some operators give free coins when you open an account, with no purchase needed. The amount and the timing vary.

The conditions matter as much as the amount. Spree’s rules, for example, spread its sign-up coins over your first three days. You collect them by logging in on each day, and only after passing any required verification checks.

Some sign-up offers do need a purchase, so read the offer terms closely. Our page of sign-up offers with no purchase needed lists current no-purchase offers.

Daily login bonuses

Many operators reward you for logging in each day. High 5 Casino’s rules, for example, award a set number of free Sweeps Coins the first time you log in each day. Spree’s rules add a twist: the more often you log in, the more coins you can claim, up to a daily cap.

Daily bonuses add up only if you log in regularly. Don’t let a streak push you into playing longer than you planned. Our guide to daily login bonuses explains how they work.

Free entry by mail

Sweepstakes operators offer a way to request Sweeps Coins by post, without buying anything. High 5 Casino’s rules call it an alternate mode of entry. It’s the most formal of the free routes, and the rules are strict.

Here is how it typically works, based on the rules we checked.

  1. Get a code from your account. High 5 Casino and Spree both require a unique request code generated while you’re logged in.
  2. Handwrite a request card. The card size and content are set out in the rules. High 5 Casino specifies a 4 inch by 6 inch card.
  3. Use the right envelope. Both operators specify a standard #10 envelope. High 5 Casino also says it must be sent from the same state as your verified address.
  4. Mail it to the address in the rules. Each operator lists its own postal address.
  5. Wait for processing. A request that follows the rules is credited to your account. High 5 Casino’s codes expire 60 days after they’re displayed.

Follow the operator’s instructions exactly. Small mistakes can void a request, and you pay the postage either way. Rules also change, so check the current version each time you send one.

Social media promotions

Some operators give away coins through their social media accounts. Spree’s rules, for example, describe competitions on its official Facebook and Instagram accounts. It says the number of coins on offer is stated in each giveaway post, and you may need to answer a question to enter.

Enter only through the operator’s official accounts. Follow each promotion’s own rules. And be wary of lookalike accounts that ask for your login details or a payment.

Bonus coins with Gold Coin packages

Some Gold Coin packages include bonus Sweeps Coins. High 5 Casino’s rules, for example, describe Sweeps Coins as a free bonus with specifically marked coin packs.

This route involves a purchase. The Sweeps Coins are free, but the Gold Coins cost money. Gold Coins themselves have no cash value. Chumba Casino’s terms, for example, say they can’t be redeemed for prizes under any circumstance. Buying is always optional. Our guide to Gold Coins vs Sweeps Coins explains the difference.

Referral bonuses can work in a similar way. Spree’s rules, for example, pay referral coins only when a referred friend signs up and buys Gold Coin packages worth at least a set amount.

What conditions come with free Sweeps Coins?

Every free route comes with rules. These are the ones to check first.

Condition What it means Example from operator rules
Playthrough Free coins must be played before winnings count High 5 Casino and Spree redeem only coins won through play
Minimum balance You need enough eligible coins to request a prize High 5 Casino sets separate minimums for cash and non-cash prizes
Identity checks You must verify who you are before a prize is paid Spree may ask for photo ID, proof of address and a facial scan
Eligibility You must be of age and in a state the operator serves Operators list excluded states in their rules
Expiry Unused coins can lapse Chumba Casino: 60 days after your last login. Spree: 60 days without play
Changes Amounts can change Spree says it can change the coins it allocates at any time

The value of a Sweeps Coin is set by each operator’s rules. Our guides to Sweeps Coins playthrough and identity verification go into more detail.

Should you rely on free Sweeps Coins?

Treat them as a way to try a site, not a source of money. Free coins can let you play without spending anything. They don’t make a win likely, and they never guarantee a prize.

Keep play within the time and budget you set. Our responsible play tools and help page explains how to set limits. To compare operators, see our list of sweepstakes casinos.

Does a free entry method settle legality?

No. Free entry is part of how the promotion is structured, but states can prohibit casino-style sweepstakes or apply existing gambling laws, as the state bans show. An alternative method of entry does not override a state restriction. Check the state pages and the operator’s current eligibility rules before requesting entries.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get free Sweeps Coins?

Through the operator's no-purchase routes. The usual ones are a sign-up offer, a daily login bonus, a mail-in request and social media promotions. Each operator sets its own amounts and conditions in its official rules. You must be eligible, which means meeting the age limit and being in a state the operator serves.

Can you redeem free Sweeps Coins right away?

No. At the operators we checked, only Sweeps Coins won through play can be redeemed. Coins you collect for free have to be played first. You also need a minimum balance of eligible coins, and you must pass identity checks before the operator releases a prize. There's no guarantee you'll reach a redeemable balance.

Is the mail-in method really free?

It needs no purchase from the operator, but you pay for the postage. The format is strict. Operators specify the card, the envelope and a code from your account, and a request that doesn't follow the rules can be rejected. Read the operator's official rules and follow them exactly.

What does free SC mean?

Free SC is shorthand for free Sweeps Coins, the sweepstakes currency you can't buy. Operators give them away through bonuses and free-entry methods. Some operators use their own name for them. Spree, for example, calls its Sweeps Coins Spree Coins. The rules for using and redeeming them are the same idea.

Do free Sweeps Coins expire?

They can. Expiry rules differ by operator. Chumba Casino's terms say Sweeps Coins expire 60 days after you last log in. Spree's rules say its coins expire after 60 days without play. Check the expiry rule in the operator's terms so a balance doesn't lapse without you noticing.
